International Foxhunting
Exchange 2007
February 3rd-14th, 2008
The 2007 International Foxhunting Exchange will be held in England. Members invited from Ireland and the United States will fly into Manchester Airport and join the GB contingent in York. Participants will embark on their journey home from Heathrow Airport.
Hunting will be in Yorkshire, in the North of England and Wiltshire, in the South West of the country, with a variety of hunts, all recognised by the Masters of Foxhounds Association.
Teams and chaperones will stay with Pony Club host families or hunt members, have meals with them, and be transported to hunt meets with them. Horses borrowed for hunting will have been hunted regularly by Members of the Pony Club or the local Hunt and will mostly be privately owned.
In addition to hunting, there will be a trip to York, for sightseeing and shopping, kennel tours and many opportunities to socialise.
Four Pony Club Members from each country aged 16-25 will be eligible. It is essential that candidates are very experienced in hunting and good ambassadors for their Pony Club and country, as well as having a record of active Pony Club involvement and services to their hunt. Applicants must be "C3" level or above, and used to riding a variety of different horses. If the applicant is a C3 they must be hunting in the first field. The Team Chaperone had already been chosen.

Invitational Games Exchange 2008
There will be a 2008 Invitational Games exchange held July 11-16th in Perth
Australia. Below is the information for Regional Supervisors who are
being asked to send in one application per Region. Dear RS:
As some of you may already know, USPC has accepted an invitation from the
Pony Club of Australia to participate in an Invitational Games Exchange July
11-26, 2008 in Perth, Australia. This is in response to the decision made at
the 2005 Pony Club International Alliance (PCIA) meeting to change the
International Games Exchange rotation from yearly to an every-other-year
format.
Based on the process in place for other Invitational Exchanges, we will not
be having a formal fall tryout this year for the Exchange (as is normally
done with traditional Games Exchanges). I am asking each Region to submit the name of no more than one candidate for the team.
This candidate must be rated C2 or higher who should not have attained their 16th birthday
by 1st January in the year of competition. It is recommended that Team Riders be at least 15
years of age (preferably near to maximum age limit), and be well balanced, mature young
people as well as good ambassadors for their country.
I think that it is reasonable to leave the RS. in each region some
latitude regarding the selection of that region's candidate. Smaller regions
may only have one suitable candidate, and I think that it would be fine for
those regions to send in that candidate's name. Larger regions may
wish to have their own tryouts to select their candidate. Because so
much of an International Exchange involves social and ambassadorial skills,
regions may wish to have only interviews or applications without a riding
tryout. I will leave the decision of a region's candidate selection process
up to each RS.
You are not required to submit a Candidate from your region. If you do not
wish to submit a Candidate for consideration from your Region, please let me
know by email.
Once the regional candidate has been named, I would like for the RS. to
select two people fill out the below Evaluation Form. These Evaluators
should be willing to complete such a form in a truthful and candid manner.
The two Evaluators should have a good knowledge of the Candidate's social
and riding skills; they could be the Candidate's Coach and D.C., but others
could be used instead. These two Evaluators should not be related to the
Candidate. The Evaluators should know that the forms will be kept in the
strictest confidence by the Selection Committee.
These two Evaluation Forms, along with the candidate's application form
(below), will them be sent as a completed package to me (as Chair of
International Exchanges) by the Regional Supervisor. I will, in turn, make
copies and distribute them to the Selection Committee. The Committee will
then select the team based on the information received. Send to: Sue Smith,
Box 288, 630 Nauset Rd, Eastham, MA 02642
Your part in this process is pivotal. As RS., you will need to determine the
method for selecting your region's candidate and see that process through to
the end, and you are then asked to oversee the completion of the two
additional Evaluation Forms as well as the Candidate's official Application
Form, and forward them to me.
I am hoping to have all of the Regional candidates named no later than
November 15th, and am then asking the Selection Committee to make their
determination no later than December 15th, 2007. This will hopefully give
the team members enough time to start their fund-raising process. I am
grateful for your help in this process, and would be happy to answer
questions that may arise as a result of this letter.
Sincerely,
Sue Smith
