The Anson W. H. Taylor Jr. Memorial Scholarship was established in 2006 to honor Anson Taylor for his work with The United States Pony Clubs and The Equestrian Land Conservation Resource. Mr. Taylor gave much time to his local Pony Club as well as serving USPC as President in the mid-1980s. He was dedicated to educating equestrians about land conservation, and was a founding member of the Equestrian Land Conservation Resource. Mr. Taylor was also an avid equestrian and foxhunter.
Purpose
To encourage Pony Club members in their academic pursuits, and reward them for their outstanding achievements in Pony Club, commitment to and efforts on behalf of land conservation.
Uses of Funds
$1,500 annually will be used to award a one-year scholarship for higher education to an active Pony Clubber who meets the qualifications outlined below.
Qualifications
1. Recipient must be a current Pony Club member, must have entered their senior year in high school at the time of application, and have been accepted to (or attending) an institution of higher education. Applicant must also have achieved a C-2 or higher rating and at least 3.0 GPA in their academics
Application
1. Applicant must complete the USPC Scholarship Application Form, which is available on the USPC web site. The completed original form must be delivered to the USPC office by March 31st. No faxed copies will be accepted.
2. Applicant must submit a letter from his/her school verifying that (s)he has been accepted to, or is enrolled full-time at an institution of higher education (this may include university, college, community college, technical or vocational school) at the time of application.
3. Applicant must submit a current transcript with an overall average of at least 3.0 from the institution (or from high school, if applicant is a high school senior).
4. Applicant must submit at least two letters of recommendation, of which one must be from the District Commissioner or Regional Supervisor of the Pony Club where (s)he is a member.
5. Recipient may re-apply for a second consecutive one-year scholarship after receiving the first award by submitting a letter to the scholarship committee along with a transcript showing that recipient has maintained the qualifying GPA. Recipient may receive no more than two consecutive scholarships.
Selection
Recipient(s) are selected by the USPC Scholarship Committee, which will include representatives from ELCR, and will be announced by June 30 through the USPC Development Department.
Disbursements
Disbursements are made directly to the college/university which the recipients attends and designated for the benefit of that student only. |
