String of Horse Beads
Buy tiny horse shoes and use fishing line and string beads in and out and all around. Buckets of beads are cheap, or look for them at garage sales. They are really cool and much cheaper than those expensive ones you see in the catalogs! Kids of all ages like these to hang in their rooms. |
From the Bookstore!
Six card games for ages 6 and up. There's a full barn of fun when playing Flying Lead Change, Full Barn, Jump!, Neck and Neck tabletop horse race, Horse Sense, and find out what it takes to be top horse in Pecking Order.

Horse Heads
Cut fabric (calico) in the shape of a horse head. Cut felt for ears and use yarn for manes. Hand sew (or machine) wrong side together. Flip. Have the kids stuff. Hand sew the bottom, or put a stick in it and tie the bottom with ribbon. Makes a nice ornament or hanger. Marker for eyes and mouth. |
|
Color Your Horse!
Mix water color paints ( big bottles from Micheal's) and dish soap (50/50) and they can paint their horse, unless rally and horse inspection are the following week. Soap makes the paint wash out, but the grey horses might have residual color for a day or so.
Or use side walk chalk. Dip the chalk in water, then it will write on the horses. When it drys it brushes off. |

Horseshoe Picture Frame
Take photos of campers and then have them make a picture frame out of old horseshoes. Paint all the shoes with a metallic silver or gold and then kids paint their own design over that with craft paints. Use a clear spray over the top. Place photo on a piece of thin cardboard and glue then place horseshoe over top mark a cutting line and then trim. Glue photo to shoe just below the nail hole. Knot a piece of string and slip through nail holes on each side to use for a hanger. |
Have the kids make: --ABC Book of Horses
--Horsey Stationary or Thank You Notes using stamps and stickers
--Rhythm bead necklaces for the horses, then ride in them
--Jumps using craft sticks, hot glue and make jumps, then paint them
--Shrinky Dink Bridle Tags - use a circle, oval, heart or horse head template |
Flat Studley
Like the Flat Stanely doll, only this is a horse cut out. Campers decorate/color their horse, and it is laminated by staff. Yarn manes were added using a hole punch. Members are given a disposable camera, and take picture of their Studley doing things, such as - in the dining hall, eating hay, jumping a jump, on their bunk, visiting a real horse. The pictures are developed, and a slide presentation is given on last day. Studley and pics go home with campers |

From the Bookstore!
Expand your Pony Club library. During camp, kids can check out a book that they can enjoy during unscheduled activity times. |
Rope Mop Stick Horse
Make stick horses out of rope mops bought at the dollar store. Use bright tube sock to cover the mop part, making a head. Hot glue on yarn mane, felt eyes, nose, mouth, and ribbon bridles to finish it. |
Glamor pics
Use props and a dolled up horse. Lots of fun with cheap boas, hats sunglasses.
You will need a patient kind mount for this! |
